Artist for abstract painting: Dirk Jakobs - The artist from Dusseldorf presents his new picture series of abstract paintings. Dirk Jakobs’ passion is the representation of thoughts. Where is the source of motivation for his work? What are the characteristics of his artistic activity? Jakobs: “I am virtually unaffected by fashion or artistic trends. Art that takes such things into account is always limited and bound to one period of time. In my art, I rely on my intuition, my feelings. I submit completely to my inner drive and my emotions. It is not unusual for me to surprise myself at what happens with me and what develops at the time. The art sometimes has a cathartic nature, it reveals the unexpected – both for the artist and the viewer.” This fact is clearly reflected in the colours and forms, which make his pictures so unmistakable and enigmatic. His artwork is therefore a sort of visualisation of this creative principle. Nonetheless, Dirk Jakobs wants more: through his art, he wants to inspire and motivate the viewer; to release and overcome the boundaries of every individual. “As a cosmopolitan artist, in my view, you have to question all kinds of boundaries – social, artistic, political and moral – overcome them, and convey new perspectives. If my art achieves that, then I have arrived.”
